Wills

If you die without a Will your estate will be distributed according to the Laws of Intestacy.

This may mean that your assets and wealth do not go to those who you intend or would want to benefit. A simple solution is to write a Will to avoid the confusion or complication that can arise from dying intestate (dying without a will).

Writing a Will

enables you to choose who you wish to be your executors and seeing as this is who is to carry out your wishes in the event of your death it is important that you choose wisely. You can also stipulate who you wish to become guardians for any children under the age of 18. This is especially important as failure to give specific instruction would leave your children as the responsibility of the state to decide where they are looked after and who brings them up.

You are also able to confirm your funeral preferences such as burial or cremation and whether you wish for flowers or donations at a funeral. These directions are not legally binding on executors but give an indication, they should follow where possible, as to your wishes.

Will writing is not regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority

You must be of sound mind and have mental capacity to write a Will. It is often a job people put off as people don’t like thinking about death but many clients find the meeting thought provoking and gives lasting peace of mind once they are finalised. It’s a task you can’t do too soon but you can leave it too late. We encourage all clients to leave their Will as a lasting legacy of their wishes for their loved ones. It brings huge comfort for many families in bereavement and makes finalising your affairs much easier and quicker for those you leave behind.
